First you'll need to create a folder called 'Minecraft_Server' or something that can tell you this will be your Minecraft server folder. Now from here you can either download the .exe file or the .jar file. .exe is easier and I don't really know the difference between them, but if for some reason your just a .jar guy, then Im sorry but you can find another tutorial for the jar file. First, go to https://minecraft.net/download, and under Multiplayer Server, click on minecraft_server1.7.10.exe. That will start the download. Place the file in your Minecraft_Server folder. Run the file and it should load up all the worlds and stuff. After it says 'Done!', you can close it. Next, you'll have to set yourself as an operator (op). To do this, look at the other files in your Minecraft_Server folder and find 'ops.txt.' Type in your Minecraft username and you will become an op. If you want to more people, press enter, and then add their username.
(i.e.
TheDoctor
Notch)
Next open server.properties with notepad (this is very important you do it with notepad or another similar application) and change spawn-monsters=false to spawn-monsters=true. Now to join your server you'll need to find your ip address. I don't know how to find it on Windows, but it is probably is some system settings or network settings. Normally you would just type localhost into the multiplayer server, but other people not on the same Wi-Fi network can do that. So to get other people to join, you need to forward the port. To do that, go to http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/554-how-to-por.. After that, tell some friends your ip address, and they are ready to join you.
NOTE: You will need to keep the file running while playing on your server or if you are going to leave your server on.
Minecraft isn't a very hardware-intensive game, but if you're hoping to run your own server, there are some key points to take into account. The first bottleneck you're likely to encounter is RAM: You'll generally need about 1GB of RAM for every four to five players who'll be hanging out on your server. Your primary roadblock will be your Internet connection.
Your first stop: CanIHostaMinecraftServer.com. Enter your connection speed and the amount of RAM inside your prospective server machine, and this website will let you know how many players you can expect to support simultaneously. If that number is a bit low, consider renting space on a dedicated Minecraft server--or having fewer friends.
There are many, many server hosts to choose from. A quick Google search will get you started. But before you choose one, you should have a clear idea of how many players you're likely to have on your server, and how much money you're willing to spend.
If you'll be hosting only a few friends, you can run a Minecraft server on your own hardware; the process is fairly simple. If you plan to install your server on a Windows machine, head over to the Minecraft downloads page and grab the executable. If you plan to run the server on a Mac or Linux machine, download the server .jar file on the same page.
Whether you're running on Windows or Mac/Linux, dump the file you've downloaded into its own folder, as it creates a few configuration files of its own when running. In Windows, double-click the executable. It'll immediately set to work creating a world and populating it with critters.
The Mac/Linux option requires a bit more legwork. On either platform, first make sure that you have the latest version of Java installed. Macs will handle that task via software update. On Linux, go to Java's download page and grab the appropriate version for your distribution.
Once you've installed the latest version of Java, you'll need to tell the Minecraft server how much memory to allocate to the server. Feel free to skip to the section of this how-to that's appropriate for your system; Windows users can jump straight to 'Getting Your Friends In.'
Linux Users
In Linux, open the terminal. Instructions may vary by distribution, but you'll probably find it in the Applications menu, under Accessories. Navigate to your Minecraft server folder (cdNAME OF YOUR FOLDER), and type the following command:
java -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui
This will assign 1GB of RAM to your server. If you're using the 32-bit version of Java, 1GB is your limit. If you're using a 64-bit version of Java, you can replace '1024M' with however many megabytes of memory you'd like to assign. For example, specify 2048M to allocate 2GB, 4096M to allocate 4GB, and so on.
Mac Users
If you're on a Mac, open the TextEdit application, and type (or copy and paste) the following lines of code.
#!/bin/bash
cd '$(dirname '$0')'
exec java -Xmx1G -Xms1G -jar minecraft_server.jar
Allocate as much memory as you'd like by changing '1G' to the number of gigabytes you'd like to set aside (2G for 2GB, 4G for 4GB, and so on).
In the Format Menu, select Make Plain Text, save the file as start.command, and move it into your server folder. Your next stop is the Terminal: type chmod a+x, and drag the 'start.command' file directly into the Terminal; this will give the file the appropriate permissions. Finally, double-click start.command, and your server will start up.
Getting Your Friends In
Everyone who wants to participate must select the Multiplayer option on Minecraft's main menu. From there, players can choose Direct Connect (for a temporary visit) or Add Server (to instruct Minecraft to remember the details). If everyone's on the same network, they can connect simply by typing localhost into the server address bar. If friends want to connect remotely, you'll need to figure out your external IP address. Point your browser over to MyWANIP, a single-serving site that will show you your IP address.
Sharing Your Single-Player World With Friends
In your Minecraft server folder, look for the file named 'server.properties' and open it with your favorite text editor. The Minecraft wiki has an exhaustive guide for configuring your server. We'll focus here on getting a world you've been playing on by yourself onto the server you've just created.
The first step is to find the world you created while playing solo. In Windows, click the Start button, and type ' %appdata% ' (without quotation marks but with spaces fore and aft) and press Enter. The '.minecraft' folder should be right at the top. Your world will be in the Saves folder; copy that folder into the folder that contains your Minecraft server. In the 'server.properties' file, look for the line that reads 'levelname=world' and change 'world' to the name of your own world. The next time you fire your server up, your creation will be there for everyone who has access to your server to play on.
Now you're all set! If your friends have no clue what to do, make sure they check out the guide to playing Minecraft. If you're looking to spruce up your server a bit, be sure to read the guide to installing mods.
If you have any Cheats, Tips, Easter, or Eggs for MInecraft: Java Edition (PC) Click EDIT and add it.

Portal Reference
[edit]
If you bake a cake for the first time in Minecraft, you will receive an achievement titled 'The Lie', a reference to Valve's 'Portal' series in which a recurring theme is a cake to be rewarded to you at the end of the game, and the writing on the walls in some secret alcoves saying 'The cake is a lie.' many times.

HIM Easter Egg[edit]
If you are on a foggy day, look closely. If you are lucky, you may see a person with default skin but with white eyes, dubbed by Notch, 'Herobrine,' or simply HIM. You may even (most rare thing you can think of) find him in the Pocket Edition of Minecraft (the only mob).
(but everybody knows that herobrine is fake and made by minecraft fans)

Quick Inventory Drop[edit]
When taking the items out of your crafting table or chests, use SHIFT+LEFT CLICK to put the item, with all attached to it, into your inventory. Another way to do this quickly is to left click, then right click, and alternate, but this only works for crafting tables.

How to Get 'The End' Achievement[edit]
First make sure you have some Eyes of Ender. Then find a stronghold and find the teleporter. Put the eyes in and the portal will be activated. Make sure you have a Diamondsword, bow with at least 100+ arrows. When you teleport there you will see tall Obsidian towers. Go on top of them and destroy all of the pearl looking things. These heal the dragon and getting rid of these is half the battle. Then unload on the dragon with your bow and arrow. When you defeat him he will fly up and explode. A teleporter will drop and you can go through it to watch the Credits and go back to your world.

Make a Snowman[edit]
Ever wanted to see a snowman in Minecraft?
Well, you can! These creatures are called Snow Golems. AKA 'Snowmans.' Here is how you can easily make one.
1. If you have 1 pumpkin and 2 snow blocks, place a snow block anywhere, and place another one on top of it.
2. After placing the two snow blocks, add the pumpkin on the top.
And then you've just made a Snow Golem/Snowman.

Break into the Void[edit]
First, create a hole to the Bedrock with a Pickaxe (You may need about 2 for this). Then, Place TNT on the top of the bedrock, all the way up to Layer 127. Explode the TNT, and you've made a hole into the Void.

Easy Enderman Kill[edit]
As of patch 1.8+, Endermen have become available/more common, and they drop Ender Pearls, which might have future use (none except mods now!). Just get their attention (put crosshairs on them), and trick them into falling into shallow water. Endermen are killed by water, as well as the sun!

Quick House[edit]
Got all of your supplies on the first day, but you don't have time to make a house? Take a door (3 X 2 Woods), mine a short tunnel into the mountain, and place the door so monsters can't get in.
All you have to do from there is expand and decorate (if you're interested.) You can also make an easy mine from this location!
It doesn't look as nice, but it's affordable in terms of supplies like wood!)

How to Find Dungeons Easily[edit]
To find dungeons easily you need to block yourself in a little room that you can fit in (better 2 blocks high and 1 block wide). Press the F key or the fog key you set to if you did in the options and rapidly press it. It should make everything but your hand disappear for 1 second. Every time the terrain disappears look for a monster spawner. If you see a monster spawner that's a dungeon. Note: If you are playing version 1.8, if you're in an abandoned mine it can be a cavespider spawner.

How to Back Up Your Minecraft World[edit]
The directory on your computer for Minecraft saved worlds and settings differs depending on what OS you’re running.
On Windows: C:UsersusernameAppDataRoaming.minecraft
Take note that the AppData directory is hidden, so be sure to show hidden files from within Folder Options.
On Mac OS: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/minecraft
On Linux: /home/username/.minecraft
The “saves” folder is what you want to back up.

Infinite Water Supply[edit]
There are a lot of reasons that you'll want to have a Bucket of Water on your hands (fire, building, farming, irritating friends, making a moat, etc.), but it can get really irritating having to run down to the ocean every tie you want some. Follow this quick tutorial, and you can have a small, endlessly full pool of water wherever you want it!
You'll need an Iron Bucket and the ability to dig into the floor a little.
1. Dig a 2 by Hole in the ground that is 1 square deep
2. Fill your bucket/s with water from the ocean or a lake. You only need 2 deposits, so taking 2 buckets is recommended.
3. Bring the water back to your base and pour 1 Bucket in each corner of the square in the ground.
If done correctly, you should have a still 2 by 2 pool of water. Every time you take a bucket and use it on any of the squares, the others refill it to fullness.
A simpler version by Ry: You will need 2 water buckets. Now dig a STRAIGHT line with 3 holes like this: If '=' equals a line, make this '. Dig 3 holes STRAIGHT and then put 1 water bucket in each end and then get the Water from the middle and the water well keep regening so the water is Infinite.
Inside Leaves
Build a 3x3 block with leaves and make it 3 blocks high. Grab an ender pearl and throw the ender pearl near the line between the ground and the leaves. You should be able to go inside of the leaves
